Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that there are many questions that our community and staff will have regarding the acquisition process. We are still at the beginning phases of the discussions and will continue to release information as it becomes available.
The following are some frequently asked questions that we hope answer some of your questions until we can provide more.
Has Wise Health System been sold to Medical City Healthcare?
No, at this time Wise Health System has only entered into discussions to be acquired and become part of Medical City Healthcare. This process can take time and requires substantial due diligence and regulatory approval before a sale is finalized.
Why is Wise Health System considering a sale?
The Board began considering the possibility of an acquisition over a year ago as it strategically looked to the future and the growth coming to Wise Health System’s market area and because of external economic factors, beyond the hospital’s control, which have negatively impacted the hospital industry, especially, rural, non-profit, and independent health systems. Wise Health System leadership believes this is the best way to ensure continued access to excellent healthcare for the patients and communities we serve and is confident that a strategic alliance with Medical City Healthcare will enhance our ability to provide excellent care, improve access, and handle the growth coming to our communities.
Do you expect service cuts or job layoffs?
We are currently in early discussions with Medical City Healthcare, so those details have not been finalized. However, we expect an acquisition will grow and improve services, and Medical City Healthcare has stated that it anticipates that substantially all employees will be retained as part of the agreement.
What will happen with the proceeds from the acquisition?
The Decatur Hospital Authority will continue to exist and provide positive services that benefit the health of our community; however, it will no longer operate the hospital. No individuals, including Governing Board members or hospital administration will financially benefit from the transaction.
What happens next?
There will be no disruption in the day-to-day operations of Wise Health System, and patients will continue to receive the excellent care they have come to expect from our facilities. As discussions progress, we will continue to provide updates to those who may be impacted by a potential transaction.
