Community to benefit from greater access to innovative, high-quality care
(Decatur, Tex.)– Wise Health System’s Board of Directors announced today that it has agreed to enter into exclusive discussions to join Medical City Healthcare, a division of HCA Healthcare. The Board’s decision to enter these discussions with HCA Healthcare reflects its long-term commitment to preserve and expand options for compassionate, high-quality healthcare in the communities it serves.
HCA Healthcare is one of the nation’s leading providers of healthcare services with 182 hospitals and approximately 2,300 sites of care, including surgery centers, off-campus emergency rooms, urgent care centers, home health and hospice agencies, and physician clinics, located in 20 states, including 47 in Texas and 16 in North Texas branded as Medical City Healthcare.
“The governing board of Wise Health System believes strongly that pursuing this path of collaboration is a crucial, proactive measure to ensure we are well-positioned to continue our mission of providing compassionate and innovative care to our community and patients with transparency and excellence for years to come,” said Carey Williams, chairman, Governing Board of Wise Health System. “The Board unanimously supports exploring an affiliation with Medical City Healthcare so we may continue offering first-class care in our area.”
Created by the Decatur Hospital Authority, the Decatur Community Hospital, now known as Wise Health System, opened its doors in 1974 with 50 patient beds and two operating rooms. The hospital now serves residents in five North Texas counties and employs more than 1,800 with a medical staff of 450+ providers.
“Our predecessors had a vision nearly 50 years ago to create an entity to care for the people of this community, and we have been fulfilling that vision for five decades,” said Jason Wren, FACHE, president & CEO, Wise Health System. “Continuing to fulfill that vision requires us to regularly evaluate what’s best for our hospital and the patients we serve. I believe exploring a future alliance with Medical City Healthcare is the absolute best way to continue providing the best delivery of health services and carry our mission forward. It’s about our patients and their families, our community, and our employees – not the name on the door.”
“Wise Health System and Medical City Healthcare have rich legacies of delivering high-quality healthcare, and both systems consistently rank among the best in the nation for patient safety and services,” said Erol Akdamar, American Group President, HCA Healthcare. “We look forward to exploring potential ways to work together to continue caring for the Wise Health community and improve access to high-quality healthcare services.”
In the near term, patients can expect their care to continue uninterrupted as the two healthcare systems enter this period of exploration. The due diligence and acquisition process is expected to continue for the next several months as the two systems work toward a definitive agreement.
