Patient safety is a top priority at Wise Health System. We continuously work to improve patient outcomes and make our locations the safest environment possible for our patients.
Speak Up™ Initiatives
Speak Up is an award-winning program sponsored by The Joint Commission to urge patients to get involved in their care. This program provides simple advice on how you, as the patient, can make your care a positive experience. If you or your family has a safety concern, please speak up. We welcome you as a partner on our safety team.
Hand washing plays a vital role in controlling infections and protecting everyone at Wise Health System locations. You can expect the staff to frequently wash their hands during your stay. We also encourage patients and visitors to contribute and wash their hands frequently.
The staff at Wise Health System uses protective gloves, gowns, masks, and eyewear during the care of patients. This type of apparel is used to prevent infection and is for the protection of both patients and staff.
Fall Precautions for Patients
At Wise Health System, fall precautions are an extremely important part of the patient’s safety. Protocols are in place to maintain safety for all patients and visitors.
When a patient is admitted, we recommend keeping two top bed rails elevated while in bed. For patients who are identified as a “high risk for falls,” an attempt will be made to place them near the nurses’ station or they may be placed on a “bed check.” The bed check system sounds an alarm and alerts nursing staff when a patient gets out of bed. There may be times when staff may request a friend or family member to remain with the patient to enhance patient safety.
Public Safety Officers
The Wise Health System Public Safety Department has grown to includes multiple Security Officers and Police Officers at each hospital location. The combination of police and security qualify the hospital as a stand-alone public safety department.
As a public safety department, our goal and mission is to keep all who enter our facility safe with the expectation they will be treated fairly and can move about our facility knowing they and their property will be secure. The department enforces Texas state laws, hospital policies, and city ordinances. They conduct their own investigations, make arrest when needed and assist other law enforcement agencies as needed. Wise Health System hospital campuses are monitored by video surveillance and patrolled 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.
